Email Deliverability Journal – Nov 9th

Fabrício Yutaka Fujikawa, November 9, 2023November 9, 2023

Hi,

Today, I will share some questions I received from a new Upwork prospect.

Q: How do you keep up to date on subjects such as best practices for deliverability?

A: I stay updated with a Google alert for “email deliverability” and follow newsletters from industry experts and platforms I use, keeping me at the forefront of best practices.

(Dan Oshinsky, Chad White, Ian Brodie, Jeanne Jennings, GlockApps, InboxAlly, Twilio, Amazon SES, etc.)

– What are your recommended best practices for regular list-cleaning?

The key to list cleaning is regularity, which I consider universal for any email list. The frequency of clean-ups should align with your sending frequency and tolerance for inactivity, which varies by list and business type. Ideally, this should be automated for efficiency.

– Should I unsubscribe inactive contacts from all lists in active Campaign to keep costs down and open/click metrics higher? Are there downsides to this?

In general, yes. However, unsubscribing inactive contacts should be a technical decision aligned with business goals. For example, you may want to treat differently inactive paying customers versus inactive non-paying subscribers. Also, you should consider a re-engagement campaign as a final attempt to win back their interest before unsubscribing.

If you have questions regarding email deliverability and automation, comment below and I will reply.

Cheers,
Fabrício
