How to Stay Updated on Google’s Email Sender Guidelines: A Practical Guide

Fabrício Yutaka Fujikawa, October 2, 2024October 1, 2024

Hi,

I’m often asked how I keep up with the constant changes in email deliverability rules. It’s a challenge that all of us email marketing professionals face daily.

Today, I want to share with you a method I’ve developed to stay updated on Google’s Email Sender Guidelines guidelines without compromising the quality of my work – or my sanity 🙂

Here’s the step-by-step process:

  1. Weekly check on Google’s Email Sender Guidelines – I check the most recent guidelines weekly. It’s an essential practice to stay ahead of changes.
  2. Save the file as a PDF – This step allows me to maintain a historical record of changes over time.
  3. Use ChatGPT as an assistant – I upload the contents to ChatGPT and request a comparison between the most recent version and the previous one.
  4. Request an objective comparison – I ask ChatGPT for a clear summary of the changes, including:
4.1 Additions, removals, and text modifications.
4.2 New requirements, deadline changes, or shifts in best practices.
  5. Double-check – To ensure accuracy, I ask ChatGPT to search for each item listed to make sure it wasn’t already in the previous version.

This method has proven extremely effective for me. Although ChatGPT occasionally brings up unnecessary items, it still saves me considerable time in my update process.

Imagine you’re building a house. Construction rules change constantly, and you must always be aware of these changes. The same applies to email marketing. Staying updated is crucial to ensure the deliverability of your emails.

You can use this process to compare any documents you need to monitor regularly to stay updated in your field.

Do you have any questions about email deliverability or want to share your own technique for staying updated? Leave a comment below.

Cheers,
Fabrício

Yesterday I received a common question: does a subdomain have a different sender reputation than a domain? Technically, yes. They are two different domains, each with an email sending and receiving configuration, and, yes, they have separate deliverability metrics. See the example below of a subdomain and domain reputation in…
