Deliverability Journal – May 6th

Fabrício Yutaka Fujikawa, May 6, 2023May 6, 2023

Today I bring some doubts I clarified for a client and would like to share with you.

The first is about the Zerobounce tool.

She mentioned receiving many “catch-all” results and asked what she should do with them.

This link explains what “catch-all” is.

ZeroBounce.net identifies these domains for you. Since we are not able to validate them, it’s up to you to decide if you want to take the risk to send to these domains. We do recommend that, if you decide to send emails to catch all domains, you segment these into a different group in your mailing platform.

To help us decide, Zerobounce offers a feature called A.I. Email Scoring that bypasses the “catch-all” issue.

Here is the response I sent to her:

“Hi __________,

I found this article on Zerobounce that recommends using the “A.I. Email Scoring” feature for catch-all emails.

The process is as follows:

1) After you clean your email list with ZeroBounce, you can further validate your list of catch all emails. We strongly recommend validating your catch-all emails since they can’t be validated during the normal validation process.

2) After you score your email file through our A.I. you will get a .csv file back with an added column where you will find the Quality Score of the email.

3) The higher quality score (QS), the higher the email engagement and the lower bounce rate.

QS: 0 has an average bounce rate of 40%
QS: 1 has an average bounce rate of 35%
QS: 2 has an average bounce rate of 30%
QS: 3 has an average bounce rate of 25%
QS: 4 has an average bounce rate of 20%
QS: 5 has an average bounce rate of 7%
QS: 6 has an average bounce rate of 6.5%
QS: 7 has an average bounce rate of 5%
QS: 8 has an average bounce rate of 3.5%
QS: 9 has an average bounce rate of 2%
QS: 10 has an average bounce rate of 1.3%

4) With ZB A.I. you can now start mailing also the catch-all files, starting with QS 10 and working your way down from that until you decide that the bounce rate is no longer acceptable.

We recommend to never send emails to emails that have a quality score of 0.

The article has a video explaining how to do the scoring.

Please let me know if you have any questions?

Kind regards,

Her second question was about testing and previewing emails on different platforms, email clients, and devices. She wanted to know if there was any automated way to perform these tests.

Here is my response to her:

“Hello _______,

As we agreed, here are two suggestions for email testing and visualization platforms:

Litmus

Email On Acid

This is a new field for me; from what I can tell, it’s pretty vast, requiring several hours of study and research. When you prioritize this activity and realize you need support, I am happy to help you compare the tools and understand how to use them.

Kind regards,

Finally, the last question was about dynamic content in emails on ActiveCampaign. Here is my response:

“Hello ________,

This article has everything about “dynamic content:”

Our use case is perfect, see:

Instead of creating a different email to talk to your leads, customers, and advocates, you can develop 1 email and switch the content based on the specific segment. This level of automation frees up your time to focus on email strategy, not repetitive tasks.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need operational support for the task?

Kind regards,

Yesterday I received a common question: does a subdomain have a different sender reputation than a domain? Technically, yes. They are two different domains, each with an email sending and receiving configuration, and, yes, they have separate deliverability metrics. See the example below of a subdomain and domain reputation in…
